A program designed to make a difference.
The Dzn Lab is a year long program introducing high-school students in under-resourced communities to "Design Doing" practices. Design Doing is the confluence of empathy-based inquiry, opportunity identification, and real world solution implementation. The Dzn Lab provides a combined curriculum of design thinking research and traditional arts training. Students accepted into the program will learn the same skills and methods that professional designers, design thinkers, and innovators use to solve local and global challenges.
PHASE 1: LEARNING BY DOING
Phase 1 takes place for six weeks during the summer. During this phase new and returning students meet to learn and hone their design thinking skills on an applied project. The summer program teaches students basic design skills, user centered thinking, design research and prototyping.
PHASE 2: APPLYING DESIGN THINKING
This phase takes place after school during the fall and spring semesters. Students will carry what they learned during the summer program into real-world projects. Click here to learn about some of our past projects.
